EUBAM Rafah marks European Day 2026

Today we mark 9 May, Europe Day, a reminder that even after conflict, unity can emerge from the deepest divisions. This date commemorates the 1950 Schuman Declaration, when European countries chose cooperation over conflict, laying the foundations for a lasting peace that continues today.

"At our work at the Rafah Crossing Point, we embody that choice every day," said Nataliya Apostolova, Head of Mission of EUBAM Rafah, in her address to staff. "We come from different places and different services - military, police, local and international staff - but this diversity makes us stronger. It helps us understand each other better and work well together in difficult situations."

Europe Day is about partnership. Every day, EUBAM Rafah supports Palestinian border experts at the Rafah Crossing Point to help provide a safe and professional border service.

Happy Europe Day!
