Ahead of the start of The 153rd Open, Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald this evening hosted a reception in Derry for potential investors from the US, Australia, India, and Europe.
Speaking at the event, held in The Walled City Brewery in Ebrington Square, the Minister described the north as a place of economic opportunity.
She said: "We are home to 1,500 international companies and only last year we welcomed 19 new international inward investors from Canada, the US, Britain, Ireland, Germany, the Cayman Islands and India.
"They chose us for our competitive operating costs, but more importantly for our highly committed and skilled workforce, and for our internationally renowned universities and colleges.
"Here in Derry the region is flourishing, underpinned by the North West Regional college, the City of Derry airport, Foyle Port, and a rapidly expanding University campus at Magee."
The Minister continued: "The 153rd Open is not just as a sporting spectacle, but a catalyst for economic development. It is a springboard to help us in our drive for creating greater regional balance, stimulating local business development, creating good jobs and supporting local communities."
