PHOTOS: Capito Visits National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtel Reserve

GLEN JEAN, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) traveled to Glen Jean, W.Va. to visit the Joint Task Force-National Scout Jamboree, followed by a visit to Summit Bechtel Reserve to meet with scouts in attendance at this year's National Jamboree. This week, the Summit has welcomed 15,000 scouts, including staff, volunteers, leaders, and supporters from across the country for Scouting America's premiere celebration.

First, Senator Capito toured the Joint Task Force Command-National Scout Jamboree at Glen Jean Armory, alongside the Adjutant General of West Virginia, Major General Jim Seward. Led by the West Virginia National Guard and supported by the Department of War, the JTF-NSJ ensures the safety and security of Scouting America's National Jamboree; providing security, logistical support, and emergency medical response during the weeklong event.

"It was great to once again get a firsthand look at the incredible operation the West Virginia National Guard have set up for the National Jamboree," Senator Capito said. "Scouts eagerly look forward to the Jamboree every four years, and their safety remains the top priority during their stay here in West Virginia. This multi-service military and civil command makes the Jamboree possible, and I am beyond grateful for their support this week."

Next, Senator Capito participated in a shooting activity at Summit Bechtel Reserve with scouts, staff, and the Scouting America leadership team. The Summit is a 14,000-acre high adventure camp owned and operated by Scouting America. It has hosted the National Jamboree every four years beginning in 2013 and the World Jamboree in 2019 which Senator Capito visited.

"It was exciting to be back at the Summit Bechtel Reserve and see our scouts in action again today. Our scouts are the future leaders of America, and this week is an incredible opportunity for them to develop critical skills, meet new people, and create lifelong memories," Senator Capito said. "I am so appreciative of the amazing leadership behind the Jamboree, and I am proud of the state and federal support that makes this possible."
