Governor Meyer Appoints Student Board Member to State Board of Education

WILMINGTON - On Friday, June 13, Governor Matt Meyer appointed Tyler Gunter as the student board member on the State Board of Education. The student seat on the State Board of Education provides a unique opportunity for young people to participate directly in state-level education policy.

"Tyler represents the very best of Delaware's next generation of leaders," said Governor Meyer. "When decisions are being made about students, students must be part of the conversation. Tyler's record of leadership already shows a clear dedication to amplifying student voices, and he is exactly the kind of leader we need at the table."

While the student member is non-voting, they play an important advisory role and contribute to discussions on critical issues including graduation requirements, equity, and school accountability.

"The Delaware State Board of Education student member role has grown and evolved these last few years because the Board values student voice," said Shawn Brittingham, President of the Delaware State Board of Education. "We welcome Tyler and look forward to hearing his perspective about public education in Delaware."

Gunter's term runs until the end of the 2025-2026 school year. The State Board of Education generally meets at 5:00pm on the third Thursday of every month.
