Coastal Flood Watch Issued for Hampton Area

Aug. 19, 2025 - The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Coastal Flood Watch for Hampton and surrounding areas from Thursday afternoon, August 21, through Friday afternoon, August 22.

What to Expect:

  • 1-2 feet of water above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Numerous road closures may occur.
  • Low-lying property, including homes and businesses, may be inundated.
  • Some shoreline erosion is possible.

How Residents Can Prepare:

  • Allow extra time if travel is required. Some roads may be closed.
  • Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
  • Protect flood-prone property by using sandbags, securing outdoor items, and moving valuables to higher ground.
  • Prepare an emergency kit with essentials such as food, water, medications, and flashlights.
  • Fully charge cell phones and other devices in case of power outages.
  • Ensure you have enough fuel for generators and operate them safely outdoors, away from windows and doors.
