The Nepal Fiscal Dashboard developed by the World Bank Group is a comprehensive, interactive platform designed to provide a granular view of public finances across the federal, provincial, and local governments. By visualizing fiscal data such as expenditures, revenues, and inter-governmental fiscal transfers, the dashboard aims to provide evidence-based insights into Nepal's public finances.
Developed following consultations with the government, civil society organizations, and development partners, the dashboard offers stakeholders an intuitive and comprehensive perspective on the dynamics of intergovernmental finance.
• Intergovernmental transfers: The dashboard tracks transfers from the federal government to Provincial and Local Governments (PLGs), including conditional and equalization grants. Users can explore trends in allocation and compare changes over time.
• Revenue and expenditure data: It displays revenue mobilization and expenditure profiles for each tier of government, enabling assessment of fiscal capacity and spending priorities.
• User-friendly interface: Built on Tableau, the dashboard offers interactive charts, filters, and drill-down options for detailed analysis.
• Verified indicators: The indicators are derived from verified government records from the federal budget speeches (Ministry of Finance), provincial budget speeches (Provincial Ministry of Finance), consolidated financial statements (Financial Comptroller General Office), and Nepal Rastra Bank, covering fiscal year (FY) 2018 to FY2024.*
The Nepal Fiscal Dashboard aims to make complex fiscal data more understandable in a user-friendly manner. It serves as a one-stop platform for policymakers, researchers, and development partners to monitor trends in revenue generation, expenditure patterns, and fiscal transfers. By presenting granular data in an intuitive format, the dashboard supports informed dialogue on resource allocation, inter-governmental fiscal transfer, and any other research related to revenue and expenditure.
The dashboard supports Nepal's transparency efforts by making fiscal data publicly available and easy to interpret. It aims to help government agencies identify gaps in resource allocation and support evidence-based policy formulation. Development partners and civil society can use the dashboard to monitor progress on fiscal decentralization and advocate for reforms aligned with equity and efficiency principles.
