Updated Sanitation Collection Announcement

WILMINGTON - Due to single-digit temperatures and wind chills below zero, the City of Wilmington has suspended trash collection on Monday, February 9. Collection is expected to resume on Tuesday, February 10.

Despite challenging winter conditions, our Department of Public Works made significant progress last week, collecting more than 620 tons of trash. This marks the highest weekly total since 2018 and more than double the amount typically collected in a week. We appreciate the dedication of our crews and the patience of our residents during this time.

We are aware that icy conditions on some city streets limited access in certain areas, which resulted in missed collections last week. Residents who did not receive service as scheduled are encouraged to contact 311 to report missed sanitation pickups.

To help crews safely and efficiently complete collections, please ensure that trash bins are placed in areas that are accessible and free from obstructions. If you cannot access trash bins, neither can our crews.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.
