#AdvocacyMatters: Your Voice, Our Priority
The latest news article will read: "Congress to maintain funding of programs for people with disabilities", and that reality was only made possible with your support.
At the end of July, we were proud to see the Senate Subcommittee pass a budget that included full funding (the same as the last fiscal year) for important disability programs like ours. This week, we watched the House Subcommittee follow suit. Not only will this protect programs like ours, but other disability focused programs like the Ohio DD Council ("Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council"), the UCCEDD ( "University of Cincinnati Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities"), The Ohio State University Nisonger Center, and Independent Living Centers.
This is because of YOU. In early July of this year, we asked you to join our partner programs in contacting our members of Congress and urging them to fully fund programs that protect people with disabilities. Not surprisingly, you answered the call. Over the course of a month and a half you sent over 3.5 thousand personal and meaningful communications to our Congress in support.
This action alert was made possible by so many amazing organizations. The Ohio Association of County Boards of DD; the Ohio DD Council; OSILC ("Ohio Statewide Independent Living Council"); Ohio Self Determination Association; Ohio Olmstead Task Force; OSU Nisonger Center; UCCEDD; and many advocates were among the groups who made sure this successful campaign was shared far and wide, so that you could make your voice heard.
Whether you've only started supporting us through this current budget, or have been an ardent supporter for decades, we are so grateful. Because you took the time and took a stand, we can continue our important work for disabled people in Ohio. We are so very honored. Your voice will always be our top priority. From the bottom of the hearts of our very humble team - thank you.
