NORWICH, CT - Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) issued the following statement after a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction, allowing work to resume on Connecticut's and Rhode Island's Revolution Wind offshore wind energy project.
"The swift decision by a federal district court is a victory not just for the parties involved, but simple commonsense," said Courtney. "A multi-billion project that is 80% complete and was fully permitted with input by the Pentagon is not a national security problem. The Department of the Interior should take the hint and let the thousands of construction workers finish the job."
On August 22nd, the Trump Administration issued a halt work order for the Revolution Wind project. While the order cites vague national security "concerns", the offshore wind energy project has already been reviewed and vetted by the Department of Defense as detailed in a 2023 Record of Decision and a December 2024 letter from the Department of Defense which states that "the Department of Defense has found that construction of the Revolution Wind project would not have adverse impacts to DoD missions in the area."
The Revolution Wind project will supply cheaper electricity to 350,000 homes Connecticut and Rhode Island. Over 1,000 union workers have logged over 2 million hours building the project, which is 80% complete.
Earlier this month, Rep. Courtney successfully defeated a measure in the House of Representatives which would have further delayed the Revolution Wind project.
