Knoxville Avenue lane closures begin March 11

UPDATE!
​Beginning Thursday March 26, the left turn from the Northbound IL 6 ramp to Northbound IL 40 will close. Motorists will continue to have access to southbound IL 40. A detour will be posted for northbound IL 40 traffic. The detour will utilize Allen Road and Pioneer Parkway.

​This closure is necessary for drainage improvements, new traffic signals, and the construction of an additional left turn lane from the northbound IL 6 ramp to northbound IL 40. ​ The turn restriction on the ramp is expected to remain until September when the overall project wraps up.

PEORIA - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that lane closures in both directions of Knoxville Avenue (Illinois 40) at the Illinois 6 interchange in Peoria begin March 11.

The lane closures are necessary to prepare for a project that consists of drainage improvements, new traffic signals and the construction of an additional left turn lane from the northbound Illinois 6 ramp to northbound Illinois 40. Additionally, the turn lane from the northbound Illinois 6 ramp to northbound Illinois 40 will close on or around March 17. Southbound Illinois 40 traffic will not be affected, and a detour will be posted for northbound traffic.

The entire project is expected to be complete in September.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
