Fort Worth's Eastside Transportation Plan has received a Silver Award in the Transportation Planning category from the American Planning Association (APA) Texas Chapter.
The awards recognize the most outstanding planning efforts taking place in Texas. The recipients and their projects demonstrate some of the best practices in community planning and serve as examples for other communities across the state and nation.
The Awards Selection Committee evaluated nominees based on originality and innovation, engagement, implementation and effectiveness, quality and promotion of planning.
"The Eastside Transportation Plan brought together the community, North Central Texas Council of Governments, Texas Department of Transportation, Trinity Metro and others to develop an actionable suite of projects that will enhance mobility options, economic development and quality of life for all Eastsiders," said Kelly Porter, Fort Worth assistant director of Transportation & Public Works. "The plan is shaping the now fully funded East Lancaster corridor capital project as a vibrant, safe, walkable 'to' place versus a 'through' place."
The Eastside Transportation Plan will be included in the upcoming Master Transportation Plan and Comprehensive Plan update. City Council approved funding $1.1 million for the East Lancaster Avenue Corridor and Sub-Regional Planning Study, retitled the Eastside Transportation Plan in September 2022.
The plan outlines capital projects necessary to inform the design and reconstruction of East Lancaster Avenue (State Hwy. 180), Brentwood Stair Road and Bridge Street. State Hwy. 180 reconstruction is fully funded and 60% designed from Loop 820 to Riverside Drive.
