DoorDash is updating consumer fees to better reflect what it takes to complete your delivery, including how far your order travels and how much effort it takes a Dasher to complete it. Based on our analysis, in over 70% of recent orders, consumers would have paid the same or less in fees under the new model - with a median saving of $0.78 per order*.
These changes are rolling out across most of the U.S. over the coming months starting today** and will help ensure we can reliably offer consumers their favorite stores and continue to provide Dashers pay that reflects the effort required for every trip - including longer distance orders.
Updates to Delivery and Service Fees
There will still be a Delivery Fee and a Service Fee.
Delivery Fee varies by merchant, but is a fixed fee.
Service Fee varies to better match delivery effort. It varies with factors like distance and order size, better reflecting the cost and effort required by the Dasher to complete your delivery.
Long Distance Fee continues to apply to a small number of deliveries, typically those over 10 miles.
Making Our Fees Even Clearer
It's also important that you see every cent you'd be paying, including fees, before you place your order, so we're adding new ways for consumers to see and understand your fees at every step - no surprises:
In-app explainer: Consumers will receive in-app notifications, including an explainer about how fees work.
Home Page: A new "Farther Away" label identifies locations that may have higher service fees due to distance relative to a closer store.
Building your cart and before checkout: We're rolling out a new tally showing a breakdown of the subtotal,
fees, and discounts that consumers can tap to view on the merchant store page as you build your cart. Every fee and tax is shown in full again on the checkout screen before you finalize your order.

What It Means for Dashers and Merchants
This change is about consumer fees. For merchants, this means that fees for ordering from nearby restaurants remain affordable for consumers. Consumers who want to order from businesses farther away can still do so, with fees that reflect the distance.
Dashers have always been paid for time and effort, typically earning more on deliveries that take more time and cover more distance. This updated fee structure helps ensure we can continue to offer Dashers pay that reflects the effort involved in each delivery, while still giving consumers the ability to order from their favorite stores - including ones farther away.
*Based on data from recent orders in a sample of relevant markets. Actual fees will vary per order. Individual results may differ and fee reduction is not guaranteed. Fees are subject to change.
**This update will not be rolled out in California, Chicago, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York City, Puerto Rico, and Seattle to start.
