Mexico Elected to Four ECOSOC Subsidiary Bodies

The Foreign Ministry reports that on April 8 in New York, Mexico was elected to four subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC):

  • Committee for Programme and Coordination (CPC), 2027-2029
  • Executive Board of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), 2027-2029
  • Executive Board of the World Food Programme (WFP), 2027-2029
  • Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, 2027-2030

As a member of the WFP Executive Board, Mexico will promote the adoption and efficient implementation of food security policies, with particular focus on humanitarian crises arising from conflict and climate change. Membership on the Board will also allow Mexico to have a voice in the selection of the next Executive Director of WFP.

On the UNAIDS Executive Board, Mexico will support the development of strategies and policies that sustain the global response to HIV/AIDS and prioritize cooperation with countries and communities in the most vulnerable situations.

On the CPC, Mexico will advocate for a programmatic and administrative vision that prioritizes streamlined management practices within the UN, avoids duplication of functions, and maximizes the on-the-ground impact of the Organization's work.

Finally, on the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, Mexico will defend the substantive participation of civil society, with the aim of strengthening the inclusivity and transparency of the United Nations system.

These results reflect recognition of Mexico's meaningful contributions to the multilateral agenda, as well as the confidence that member states have placed in Mexico and its capacity to contribute to the work of these bodies and the broader UN system.
