DES MOINES, Iowa - Following the National Association of Medicaid Directors' (NAMD) announcement of its newly elected leadership, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced today that State Medicaid Director Lee Grossman has been elected to serve as President Elect on the NAMD Board of Directors, effective April 1, 2026.
"I'm proud that Iowa Medicaid Director Grossman has been selected to lead and serve alongside our national partners working to strengthen the integrity and outcomes of the Medicaid program," said Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. "This leadership role highlights the importance of collaboration and reinforces that strong federal-state partnerships are fundamental to effective Medicaid administration."
"I am grateful for Director Grossman's strong leadership and the vast experience he brings to Iowa's Medicaid program," said Iowa HHS Director Larry Johnson. "His leadership will benefit Iowa and the Medicaid program by spreading best practices among the states."
"Medicaid Directors are navigating one of the most complex policy environments in recent memory-managing new federal priorities and regulations while driving innovation at the state level," said Director Grossman. "What this moment makes clear is that the collective operational expertise of Medicaid leaders has never mattered more, and I'm honored to help amplify that expertise through NAMD."
Grossman joined Iowa HHS as Medicaid Director in fall 2025 after serving as Wyoming's Medicaid Director for two and a half years. He brings more than 14 years of public-sector experience, including leadership roles in Medicaid operations and home- and community-based services. His work reflects a strong commitment to rural health care and supporting thriving rural communities. Grossman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Wyoming.
