Weekly farmers market returning to Tempe in October

Fresh, seasonal, and local products are coming soon to Downtown Tempe. The Tempe City Hall Farmers Market will launch on Sunday, Oct. 11.

The market will serve as a welcoming space to connect with neighbors, enjoy fresh flavors, and contribute to a resilient community. It will feature a variety of small-business vendors selling produce, baked goods, ready-to-eat foods, and handmade items. The market will take place on most Sundays, running from 8 a.m. to noon between October and April, and from 7 to 11 a.m., May to September.

"This market reflects Tempe's commitment to our community members' overall well-being," said Tempe Mayor Corey Woods. "We're supporting entrepreneurship in our community and creating a space where people can shop, spend time together and enjoy downtown Tempe."

The Tempe City Hall Farmer's Market is organized by Jon Przybyl of Proof Bread and Meg Kabotie Adakai, founder of the Flagstaff Mountain Town Market, in partnership with the City of Tempe.

"Tempe, and specifically City Hall, is a perfect venue for a Sunday farmers market," said Przybyl. "With the community's support, we can build the best Sunday market in the state from here. Tempe is centrally located, has the infrastructure to support a farmers market, enjoys free Sunday parking on all the streets, and has a diverse population primed for this kind of event. I couldn't be more excited to bring this vision to life."

"I am so excited to bring a farmers market to Tempe," said Kabotie Adakai. "It is my passion to connect people to local food that has been grown, raised, harvested, and made with love. I truly believe food is medicine and art."

The Tempe City Hall Farmers Market also supports Tempe's sustainability goals. Tempe is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a more sustainable community. Choosing locally produced food can reduce some of the transportation associated with moving food long distances while also strengthening the local food economy.

"Small choices, when made across a community, can contribute to broader sustainability efforts," said Eric Iwersen, Tempe's Transportation and Sustainability Director. "Farmers markets connect people with where their food comes from and with the people who grow it."

Event organizers are looking for local farmers, artisan food makers, pet treat creators, health and wellness product producers, musicians, artists and more to participate in the market. Those interested should fill out this form.
