Nashville Fire Department Fire Investigations in 2025

The Nashville Fire Department's Fire Investigations Division experienced a significant increase in workload at the end of 2025, reflecting the city's continued growth and the increasing complexity of fire-related incidents.

Calls for origin and cause investigations rose by 19 percent compared to 2024, placing additional demands on investigators. Despite the higher volume, the division remained highly productive and proactive in strengthening its operational capabilities.

Throughout 2025, fire investigators completed more than 1,000 hours of specialized training, ensuring continued excellence in investigative practices. The division also expanded its technical resources by adding drone capabilities, enhancing scene documentation, improving investigative efficiency, and supporting more detailed and accurate analysis.

A recent example of the division's effectiveness is a joint investigation with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

This collaborative effort led to the federal conviction of Pardrae Gooch in connection with a violent robbery and arson at a South Nashville clothing store. Gooch was sentenced on September 26, 2025, underscoring the importance of interagency cooperation in complex criminal investigations.

To address the rising demand for investigative services, the 2026 Fiscal Year Budget approved the addition of two new fire investigator positions within the Fire Investigations Division.

These positions will help ensure timely, thorough, and high-quality investigations while maintaining the division's commitment to public safety and accountability.
The Nashville Fire Department remains dedicated to adapting to the city's evolving needs through continued investment in personnel, training, and technology.
