Commissioner Brunner at the 2nd Global Fraud Summit in Vienna

On 16 March, Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, attended the Global Fraud Summit 2026, an international conference focused on tackling global financial fraud, scams, and cyber-enabled crime, organised by UNODC and INTERPOL in Vienna.

The event brought together governments, law-enforcement agencies, international organisations and businesses to coordinate responses to fraud worldwide.

The Commissioner spoke at the session on "Turning the tide: from commitment to action", which set the strategic tone for the Global Fraud Summit by presenting an overview of the evolving global fraud landscape. The Summit facilitates high-level exchanges on how to translate political commitments into concrete impact. It provided the stage for global leaders to discuss priorities and challenges, align responses, and advance solutions, including through the formal announcement of the Call to Action on Combatting Fraud, which identifies key actions to tackle fraud.

Commissioner Brunner announced that the Commission will present an EU action plan against digital fraud before summer. The plan will outline the initiatives to combat this complex phenomenon through coordination and partnership between and among public authorities, private partners, and civil society.
