ICYMI: Trump Refuses to Pay SNAP Benefits Amid His Government Shutdown Arrow

A new U.S. Department of Agriculture memo makes clear that Donald Trump is unnecessarily ripping away crucial SNAP benefits from 42 million Americans, which are set to cease on November 1st. Trump's already made the largest cut to food assistance in history, and now he's using working families as a tool to score political points by refusing to pay for food assistance. Trump has the power to make sure families continue receiving their benefits, but he would rather let families go hungry and keep the government shut down in order to double health care premiums for 22 million Americans.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"While Donald Trump focuses on demolishing the East Wing, millions of Americans are wondering how they will put food on the table. Trump's crusade to deny people the benefits they rely on is just salt in the wound. He's already made the biggest cut to health care and food assistance in history, and now he's refusing to disburse SNAP benefits or fix a looming health care crisis that will cause health care premiums to skyrocket by 114%. Trump couldn't be clearer - he will leave working families out to dry in order to line the pockets of his billionaire buddies."

Trump's second term has been a living nightmare for working families. His disastrous economic policies have worsened inflation and stalled the job market, while his cuts to food assistance are expected to plunge millions of Americans into food insecurity. To make matters worse, the most popular health care plans on Healthcare.gov have spiked an average of 30% for next year, reflecting the largest annual premium increases by far in recent years, because of Trump's government shutdown.
