LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON CESAR CHAVEZ

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:

The accounts of traumatic physical and emotional abuse of women and girls by Cesar Chavez are horrifying and deeply disturbing. To come forward after years of pain and fear is nothing short of heroic. We must provide all of these survivors with our strong support, heartfelt prayers and unyielding solidarity.

Beyond any one person, the United Farm Workers have fought for decades to ensure our nation continues its long march toward a more perfect union. Throughout UFW's history, farm workers have forced the country to tackle the ugly realities of inequality, oppression and economic injustice. The farm worker movement will endure, while authentically grappling with the reality of these troubling revelations.

Transparency, accountability and the full telling of painful truth, as has been courageously done by Dolores Huerta and other brave women, must be put front and center.
