Larson Applauds Court Ruling Blasting Sham “Get Out of Jail Free” Settlement for Trump and MAGA Allies

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) applauded Judge Kathleen William's court decision castigating President Trump's sham $1.8 billion settlement with the IRS that included payments to the Trump family and January 6th insurrectionists, as well as a "get out of jail free card" that would bar the government from investigating tax returns filed by the Trump family and their companies.

"Judge Williams saw what Americans saw from the beginning-this lawsuit was nothing more than an attempt to redirect taxpayer dollars to Donald Trump's bank accounts," said Larson. "The federal government is not his personal ATM. The attorneys who signed off on this unprecedented theft of taxpayer dollars should face disciplinary proceedings for their mockery of our legal system, including Todd Blanche. The Senate must swiftly reject his nomination for Attorney General, and Congress needs to pass my bill to stop this scam for good, including their sweetheart deal to shield the President and his family from ever having to pay the taxes they owe."

In May, Larson filed a court brief urging Judge Williams to dismiss the President's unprecedented lawsuit. Last month, he introduced the Don't Settle for Corruption Actto block the settlement agreement by requiring Congressional approval before the Department of Justice (DOJ) can spend taxpayer dollars on any legal settlement resolving a case involving the President, the President's immediate family, or any business entity they own or control.
