Mayor-President Announces Initial Layoffs Following the Election Results of Propositions 1, 2, and 3

On Saturday night, following the election results of Propositions 1, 2, and 3, I stated that the process of implementing budget cuts would begin on Monday and that those cuts would start within my own office. Today was one of the most difficult days I have faced as Mayor-President, second only to the loss of BRPD Sergeant Caleb Eisworth. This morning, I laid off four employees in my office as we work to implement our 12 percent cut. These were people I care about, respect, and who worked tirelessly to make a difference for our City-Parish. These four are, unfortunately, the first of many who will be affected, not only in my office but across our government. Earlier today, official notices were sent to department heads and employees, informing them of impending layoffs. These letters outline the process that will begin on January 1 and continue through the first quarter of 2026.
