WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced that Louisiana will receive $49,838,000.00 from the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to conserve more than 20,000 acres of waterfowl habitat and expand public access on two national wildlife refuges. Funding was approved by the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission through revenues primarily generated from the sale of Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamps, commonly known as Duck Stamps.
"Whether it's duck hunting at sunrise or casting a line in the afternoon, Louisianans know how important the outdoors are to our way of life," said Dr. Cassidy. "This funding allows folks to keep enjoying while boosting local economies in North Louisiana."
This latest round of funding provides $35,238,000.00 to the Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Refuge for the conservation of 17,023 acres and $14,600,000 to the Red River National Wildlife Refuge for the conservation of 3,285 acres. These investments will strengthen migratory bird habitats, and expand opportunities for hunting, fishing, birdwatching, and other recreational activities that boost local economies.
