Chik was Press Secretary and Chief Spokesperson to the City Comptroller

NEW YORK - The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) welcomed Chloe Chik as its new Director of Communications this week. Chik joins NYLAG from the Office of the New York City Comptroller, where she served as press secretary and chief spokesperson to former Comptroller Brad Lander.

"Chloe comes to NYLAG with an incredibly impressive communications background that includes a wide range of experiences in government and public affairs," said NYLAG President and CEO Lisa Rivera. "We're grateful to have Chloe aboard, and I feel confident that she will help us amplify our communities' voices and build on our work to shift harmful narratives and disrupt and combat systemic racial, social and economic injustices."

As press secretary at the New York City Comptroller's Office for four years, Chik led media strategies on major initiatives, such as a series of New York Times exposés on the medical services turned shelter provider DocGo, prevailing wage suits and settlement around COVID-19 subway cleaners, and audits related to New York City's mental health crisis operations- 911 rerouted dispatch B-HEARD and Intensive Mobile Treatment street teams. Chik also led rapid response strategy, including when Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Comptroller Lander at 26 Federal Plaza.

"Congratulations to NYLAG on the excellent decision to hire Chloe Chik as Communications Director," said former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander. "In our toughest moments in the Comptroller's office, Chloe showed quick wits and grace under pressure. In every moment, she is a gifted communicator, who will help NYLAG tell the many stories of its critical work for fair and equal justice for all New Yorkers."

"I am thrilled to serve as the Communications Director at NYLAG, where I get to advocate for everyday New Yorkers who face systematic injustices," said Chik. "Throughout my career, I strive to use media platforms to advance causes that build a fairer and more inclusive society and look forward to amplifying the voices of clients and communities of NYLAG."

Prior to the New York City Comptroller's Office, Chik was at Pythia Public Affairs, overseeing the communications strategy for a range of not-for-profit and campaign clients, including the New York Immigration Coalition, One Fair Wage, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and Zephyr Teachout.
