Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received President of Hargita County Council

The Hungarian government requested an assessment of the situation and an assistance list in connection with the Parajd (Praid) disaster from President of Hargita County Council Barna Botond Bíró whom Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received on Wednesday in Budapest.

In a video posted on his Facebook account, the Prime Minister said they asked Mr Bíró to inform the government about the situation that has evolved in the wake of the disaster that struck the Parajd salt mine.

He said they requested the President of the Hargita County Council to provide an assessment of the situation, and next an assistance list to see what assistance the Hungarian government is able to provide - supplementing the efforts of the Romanian government - for the Hungarians living there.

"Everyone feels that a piece of the Hungarian world is in danger, and at that, it appears, in mortal danger," Mr Orbán said.

In the video, Mr Bíró highlighted that the livelihood of the entire Parajd community was in danger. At the same time, he said it is a truly great feat that on the Day of National Unity, they are able to talk about problems affecting members of the Hungarian nation in Budapest.
