Washington County Administrator Honored Among 'Women of Distinction'

Melissa Fitch, the Washington County Administrator, was honored by the New York State Assembly, receiving the prestigious "Woman of Distinction" proclamation. Assemblyman Matt Simpson presented the award at a ceremony in Lake George last week.

Assemblyman Simpson mentioned Ms. Fitch's transformation of the County HR/Civil Service department, streamlining of the purchasing process increasing efficiency and savings not only for the county but for local towns and villages as well, and handling the myriad challenges COVID brought to county operations. Under her leadership employee manuals were revised and a welcoming break room was established.

She is also actively engaged and taking leadership roles in higher level activities such as the New York State Association of Counties, local chamber of commerce, and legislative advocacy groups. Simpson said, "Melissa Fitch's innovative public service and interpersonal excellence had made her a role model throughout Washington County." Robert Henke, Washington County Board of Supervisors Chairman added, "This award is richly deserved. We are lucky to have someone with Melissa's ability to comprehend complex issues and devise rational pragmatic solutions."

This year's Women of Distinction recognition included two other residents of Washington County as well, they are:

  • Suzanne Fariello
  • Michelle Viola-Straight
