AHN Wexford Hospital Recognized by Vizient as 2026 Birnbaum Quality Leadership Top Performer

- Hospital honored for the second consecutive year by Vizient for excellence in quality, safety and patient care performance

PITTSBURGH (October 20, 2026) - AHN Wexford Hospital today announced it has been recognized as a top performer in the 2026 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking by Vizient, Inc.

AHN Wexford ranked among the top 10 hospitals in its Complex Care hospital cohort and was just one of 22 hospitals nationally recognized for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality care based on the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study, conducted annually since 2005. The national recognition marks the second consecutive year that AHN Wexford has been honored through the Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking.

"To be recognized by Vizient for a second consecutive year is a testament to the discipline, compassion and teamwork that define our hospital," said Allan Klapper, MD, president, AHN Wexford Hospital. "This distinction reflects our team's unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality of care and an outstanding experience for every person who entrusts us with their care."

This year, 1,346 participating hospitals were segmented into seven cohorts for the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. The study measures performance on the quality of patient care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and variation in care. The study factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes performance data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey and the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network.

The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study helps participating hospitals and health systems understand their performance against their peers and identifies structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activity.

"Delivering consistently high-quality care requires organizations to align clinical expertise, operational discipline and a continuous focus on improvement," said David Levine, MD, chief medical officer, Vizient. "The hospitals recognized this year demonstrate what is possible when that commitment is embedded across the organization, resulting in better performance and, most importantly, better care for patients."

Located north of Pittsburgh in Pine Twp., AHN Wexford Hospital includes 158 inpatient beds and a 24-bed emergency department which is capable of caring for both adult and pediatric patients. The hospital has received many awards and accolades across quality, safety and patient experience. This month, the hospital is celebrating five years since opening its doors in 2021.

Vizient, Inc., the nation's largest provider-driven healthcare performance improvement company, provides solutions and services to more than two-thirds of the nation's acute care providers and more than one-third of ambulatory providers.
