Following President Joe Biden's address to the nation, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement:
"Over the last four years, I have had the honor of serving as the Chair of the Democratic National Committee under the most effective President in my lifetime. I have watched President Biden and Vice President Harris guide our country out of a global pandemic, rebuild our alliances on the world stage, and pull our nation out of one of the worst economic crises in our history.
"President Biden created more than 16 million jobs, had the lowest unemployment rate of any president in 50 years, and ushered in tens of millions of new business applications. The President shepherded historic legislation through Congress, from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act to the American Rescue Plan Act, revamping our infrastructure, ending a once-in-a-generation pandemic, and giving Americans a fighting chance against the climate crisis.
"Americans will feel the impact of the Biden-Harris administration for generations to come. Thanks to unparalleled leadership, insulin is capped at $35 for our nation's seniors, more Americans have health care than ever before, and Medicare recipients' out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs are capped. These kitchen table policy achievements will put even more money back in the pockets of hardworking families. At the same time, the President has led us with courage, conviction, and clarity on the world stage, and announced earlier today that Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire and hostage deal.
"And on a personal level, I have seen this President take bold actions to make sure that all Americans regardless of race, gender, or background have had a seat at the table and representation in a government that is supposed to represent them. From his historic and record breaking appointments of people of color and women to the judiciary to his changes to the Democratic presidential primary calendar elevating communities that have been historically relegated to the sidelines, Joe Biden has seen us, heard us, and most importantly fought for us - all of us.
"As we recommit to our fight against the threats that Donald Trump and his MAGA cronies pose to the American people, we also owe a debt of gratitude to President Biden and will continue to honor and uplift his legacy - a man who served our nation for over 50 years, put the American people first, and answered the call on behalf of his country.
"Thank you, Mr. President."
