Lane Closures on I-285, Bouldercrest Rd to Moreland Ave this Weekend
Bouldercrest Bridge Closed Nov 12-17, All Traffic Detoured
ATLANTA METRO - Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will install lane closures on Interstate 285 (I-285) in proximity of the Bouldercrest Road bridge/overpass this weekend and will temporarily close access to the Bouldercrest Road bridge next week, as the I-285 at Bouldercrest Road Interchange Improvement project continues in DeKalb County.
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, one right lane will be closed on I-285 eastbound between Bouldercrest Road and US 23/SR 42/Moreland Avenue, inclusive of the I-675 interchange, beginning 8 p.m. on Friday, November 6 until 5 a.m. Monday morning.

In addition, beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 12 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, crews will close access to the Bouldercrest Road bridge over I-285. All Bouldercrest Road traffic approaching the bridge will be detoured:
  • Traffic heading northbound on Bouldercrest toward the bridge closure:
    • Travel eastbound on I-285 to Flat Shoals Road (exit 48), turn left to access I-285 westbound to return to Bouldercrest (exit 51), at the end of the ramp turn right to northbound Bouldercrest Road.
  • Traffic heading southbound on Bouldercrest toward the bridge closure:
    • Use the existing entrance ramp to westbound I-285 to Moreland Avenue (exit 52), turn left on Moreland, continue south on Moreland to Cedar Grove Road, then turn left and continue to access Bouldercrest Road.
The lane closures will provide safety for drivers and work crews. The temporary bridge closure marks a major milestone in the project construction, allowing crews to raise the existing Bouldercrest Road and bridge approaches four feet to match the higher new Bouldercrest Bridge elevation. When crews remove this closure, traffic will be shifted onto the new bridge and will be able to access all new I-285 eastbound and westbound ramps.

This $95 million project will reconstruct the I-285/Bouldercrest Road interchange, replace the existing Bouldercrest Road bridge over I-285, and construct five new bridges and new Collector-Distributor (CD) lanes between Bouldercrest Road and I-675. This project is designed to reduce the high frequency of vehicular accidents and crashes, better accommodate growing truck traffic volumes and create better traffic flow for current and future travel through the interchange and through the area.

Advisory: GDOT reminds drivers to exercise caution when traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
