Hagåtña, Guam - The Office of the Governor proudly announces the theme for this year's 81st Liberation Day: Fanohge CHamoru-Stand Ye Guamanians-the powerful opening line of Guam's anthem, written by Dr. Ramon Manalisay Sablan in 1919. This year's theme also coincides with another major milestone: the 80th anniversary of the Organic Act of Guam. Signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on August 1, 1950, the Organic Act granted American citizenship to Guam residents and established a civilian government. It laid the foundation for self-governance and began our journey toward political self-determination.

"As we prepare to celebrate the 81st anniversary of our island's liberation, we do so under a banner that calls on us to rise united, proud, and strong," said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. "Fanohge CHamoru is not only a reflection of our past but a commitment to our future. It honors the unbreakable spirit of our people and reminds us of the legacy we carry forward. More than a historical refrain to our island's anthem, it is the heartbeat of our identity. It pays tribute to the resilience of our people who endured occupation, hardship, and loss yet remained steadfast in their love for Guam and their hope for liberation. Liberation Day is a celebration not only of freedom reclaimed but of a people who continue to rise in the face of adversity."

"Liberation and the Organic Act are twin pillars of our history," said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. "One represents the return of our freedom. The other affirms our identity and empowers us to shape our destiny. This year, we honor both by embracing the call to stand tall and build a future rooted in strength, unity, and purpose. As Guam reflects on 81 years of freedom and 80 years of political progress, Fanohge CHamoru serves as a reminder of who we are and who we strive to become. It is a rallying cry to stand proud, speak with courage, and carry forward the hopes of those who came before us."

More information on Liberation Day festivities, memorials, and commemorative events will be announced in the coming weeks.
