PHILADELPHIA, PA- Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) today announced $1.4 million in federal funding for infrastructure improvements at Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) to strengthen safety and support long-term airport operations.
"This is the third busiest airport in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," said Congressman Boyle. "So, this is a real economic driver for not just Northeast Philadelphia, not just the entire city of Philadelphia, but really all of Southeastern Pennsylvania as well as adjacent South Jersey. I am proud to present $1.4 million in total to Northeast Philadelphia Airport."
The funding includes $1 million for airfield improvements, signed into law in the FY 2026 federal funding package, and $400,000 secured in FY 2024 for perimeter fencing upgrades.
The airfield project will rehabilitate Taxiway C, addressing pavement deficiencies, extending the pavement's lifespan with a 20-year design life, and upgrading airfield lighting, signage, and drainage systems to meet current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards.
Boyle highlighted the investments during a press conference at the airport alongside Tracy Sullivan Borda, CFO and Interim CEO of Philadelphia International Airport, airport leadership, and local stakeholders.
"We're grateful to be here with Congressman Brendan Boyle for this incredible funding announcement that helps continue to advance improvements at Northeast Philadelphia Airport," said CFO and Interim CEO Borda. "As Congressman Boyle said, it is the third busiest airport in the Commonwealth. It supports four flight schools, several news organizations and many private businesses with flight operations. It is also the North American home of global manufacturer, Leonardo Helicopters."
Northeast Philadelphia Airport operates on approximately 1,050 acres with two runways and supports significant aviation activity serving businesses, pilots, and travelers across the region. The improvements will help maintain the airport's long-term reliability while positioning the airport for future aviation investment and development opportunities.
