City of Tyler issues Disaster Declaration ahead of winter weather

Tyler Mayor Don Warren has issued a local disaster declaration in anticipation of a significant winter weather event expected to impact the Tyler area from Friday, January 23, through Monday, January 26.

Forecasts indicate the potential for freezing temperatures, winter precipitation, and hazardous travel conditions that could affect public safety, transportation, and essential services. The declaration allows the City of Tyler to mobilize resources, coordinate emergency response efforts, and take proactive measures to protect residents and critical infrastructure.

"Declaring a local disaster ahead of this storm ensures the City is prepared to respond quickly and effectively," Mayor Warren said. "Our priority is keeping people safe and maintaining essential services as conditions change."

City departments, including Streets, Fire, Police, and Tyler Water Utilities, are actively preparing for the storm and coordinating response plans. Crews are monitoring weather conditions, staging equipment, and preparing to respond to roadway issues and emergency calls as needed.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for winter weather by following the four P's: People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants. The City also urges the public to limit travel during hazardous conditions and to stay informed through official City communication channels.

The disaster declaration will remain in effect for up to seven days unless extended by the Tyler City Council.
