Press Briefing
Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Lee Jaewoong
September 25, 2025 14:30 KST
Good afternoon. Let me start today's briefing.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is holding the Global Development Partnership Week 2025 in Seoul from September 21 to October 3.
As part of the Week, the 18th Seoul ODA International Conference will be held on September 29, providing a forum for governments, international organizations, and civil society to share knowledge and experiences related to ODA. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Jina will deliver welcoming remarks at the conference.
Following this, the 8th Busan Global Partnership Forum, which focuses on development effectiveness, an International Development Cooperation agenda led by Korea, will take place from September 30 to October 1. First Vice Minister Park Yoonjoo will host the welcome reception, and Second Vice Minister Kim Jina will deliver opening remarks.
The Global Development Partnership Week, being held for the first time this year, is expected to contribute to raising international awareness of Korea's leadership role by bringing together major domestic and international development cooperation events.
Next, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will launch the "mobile passport information verification service" in the first half of 2026, enabling information included in passports and resident registration numbers to be verified through private smartphone apps.
In March 2025, the Enforcement Decree of the Passport Act was amended to provide a legal basis for the service. The Foreign Ministry is currently preparing for the launch of the service by forming a consultative body with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the National Information Society Agency, and participating private companies.
This service is expected to allow Korean citizens to use passport information more conveniently in everyday life, such as verifying their identity through smartphones without carrying their passports.
