Senior Accounting Student Named PCAOB Scholar

Camia Rosella Capalongo '27, an accounting major from Scranton, has been named a 2026 Scholar by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, earning a $15,000 scholarship through the organization's nationally competitive program.

Capalongo is one of 677 college students in the U.S. to receive the scholarship, which recognizes students pursuing accounting studies and supports their development as future professionals in the field.

Capalongo, who graduated from West Scranton High School, is a dean's list student and a member of both the Frank P. Corcione Business Honors Program and the Robert L. McKeage Business Leadership Honors Program. She is actively involved in the Kania School of Management Student Advisory Board, the Beta Alpha Psi and Omega Beta Sigma Honor Societies, Kania Women in Business, the Italian Society and the Commuter Student Association. She interned this past spring with Kronick, Kalada, Berdy and Co. in Kingston.

"I am truly grateful to receive the PCAOB Scholarship," Capalongo said. "This financial support will have a meaningful impact on my education and inspires me to continue working hard as I pursue a career in accounting."

Capalongo is the seventh University of Scranton student to receive the scholarship since 2017, bringing the total amount awarded to Scranton students through the program to $85,000.

The Scholars Program was launched in 2017 by the PCAOB, which is a nonprofit corporation established by Congress. It is charged with overseeing the audits of public companies to protect investors and further public interest and trust in audit reports.

"As a career choice, accounting offers students an opportunity to enter an innovative, technology-driven field that helps protect investors and build trust in our capital markets," PCAOB chair Demetrios (Jim) Logothetis said in a press release. "We congratulate this year's PCAOB Scholars, who have shown already that they have what it takes to become leaders in the profession and gatekeepers in financial reporting."

U.S. News and World Report's 2026 Best Colleges report ranked The University of Scranton No. 8 in the Regional Universities (North) category with a national ranking of No. 40 in Best Undergraduate Programs in Accounting.
