In Memory of Marty Mesh (1953-2026)

We at IFOAM - Organics International deeply mourn the passing of Marty Mesh, a decades-long advocate of organic agriculture who co-founded the Florida Certified Organic Growers & Consumers Inc. (FOG).

Born on 12 June 1953 in Dallas, Texas, Mesh started growing organic produce in 1973. He later brought organic produce closer to consumers through a co-op that he helped start. He also founded Bellevue Gardens Organic Farm in Archer, Florida. But Mesh's advocacy extended beyond his farm. In 1989, he co-founded FOG, where he served as its long-time executive director. The organization's mission is to promote sustainable agriculture while supporting growers, strengthening local food systems, and making healthy food accessible. Mesh also served as one of the Board of Trustees at The Organic Center, and campaigned for organic agriculture across different fronts.

His passing is a great loss to the agricultural and development community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and pray for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
