Message from Cal Cities President Lynne B. Kennedy on federal immigration enforcement actions

Dear City Officials,

Cal Cities stands in support of communities across California - including Los Angeles, Paramount, Bakersfield, San Diego, and others - that are experiencing the impacts of recent federal immigration enforcement actions. These actions have caused fear, frustration, and uncertainty among residents. We also support the constitutional rights of residents to express their concerns over these actions through peaceful protest. Violence and property destruction are not a solution.

We recognize and appreciate the work you do every day to maintain public safety, build public trust, and protect the well-being of all community members. It is because of your efforts that local governments remain the most trusted level of government among the American public. We understand that recent events threaten that trust and make your work even more challenging.

These events also highlight a long-standing reality: the nation's immigration system, which is a federal responsibility, is deeply broken. That is why Cal Cities has consistently called on Congress to enact commonsense immigration reforms - reforms that balance enforcement with thoughtful and sensitive solutions that reflect the realities faced by millions of families, students, and workers in California and across the nation.

Cal Cities remains in close communication with our federal congressional delegation and state officials. We are committed to keeping you informed and sharing any information that may support your city as you navigate these difficult circumstances.

Thank you for your leadership.

Sincerely,

Lynne B. Kennedy
President, League of California Cities
Mayor Pro Tem, Rancho Cucamonga
