187th Street over I-80 bridge repairs begin Aug. 24

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying 187^th Street over Interstate 80, in New Lenox, will begin, weather permitting, Monday, Aug. 24.

To complete the work, 187^th Street will be closed between U.S. 6 (Maple Road) and Townline Road. A detour will direct traffic to U.S. 6 and Wolf Road. The public also should expect occasional overnight lane closures on I-80 at 187^th Street.

The project, which consists of repairing the bridge deck, approaches, replacing expansion joints and installing a new deck overlay, is anticipated to be completed in December.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
