Mexican National Sentenced for Immigration Offense

HAMMOND - Hever Alan Ramirez-Hernandez, 44 years old, of Mexico, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund after pleading guilty to felony reentry of removed alien, announced United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred.

Ramirez-Hernandez was sentenced to time served, followed by 1 year of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 Special Assessment. The supervised release term would go into effect should the Defendant remain in, or return to, the United States within that period following expected removal proceedings.

According to documents in the case, after his arrest in Lake County, Indiana, in September 2025, Defendant voluntarily departed for Mexico. In January 2026, however, Defendant attempted to illegally reenter the United States, after which he was prosecuted in the Southern District of Texas and removed to Mexico. Fewer than four months later, federal immigration authorities again found the Defendant in Lake County, Indiana, after he had illegally reentered the country.

"The Defendant was deported earlier this year and did not respect our nation's laws, borders, or sovereignty then or when he again illegally entered the United States. Once he is released, the Defendant needs to leave and not return again to the United States illegally," said U.S. Attorney Adam Mildred.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Hammond and East Chicago Police Departments. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Zachary D. Heater.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
