(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at approximately 8:58 p.m., Peoria Police were patrolling the area of Shelly and Howett when they observed a subject wearing a ski mask and dark clothing.
As police began to approach the male, he immediately fled on foot.
During the foot chase, members of ISP AirOps were in the area and located the male subject and alerted officers on the ground.
Peoria Police apprehended the 17-year-old juvenile in the 1500 block of W. Butler Street without further incident.
During a search of the juvenile's flight path, officers located a loaded handgun.
The juvenile was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Handgun by a Person Under 21, No FOID, and Resisting Police.
He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
