As we close the curtain on 2025, the Illinois Arts Council(IAC) commemorates a milestone year celebrating our 60th anniversary. This year has been a remarkable journey across Illinois, embracing the arts in every corner of our state. From Northern to Southern Illinois, each stop was a testament to our rich cultural heritage, creativity, and community spirit.
Our yearlong tour was a vital opportunity to deepen our understanding and relationships within our arts communities. Highlights included the announcement of Mark Turcotte as Illinois Poet Laureate in Springfield as well as the formation of the Illinois Creative Caucus, a bipartisan group dedicated to strengthening our state's creative economy. Our journey culminated at the One State Conference, where 350 attendees gathered in Champaign-Urbana for an inspiring convergence of arts and humanities professionals. This event, themed "Meeting the Moment," featured dynamic discussions and performances, reinforcing the arts' integral role in cultural identity. Visit the IAC's 60th Anniversary web pagefor a review of One State and all our 60th anniversary events with links to videos, photos, and more.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Board Chair Nora Daley, whose concluding remarks beautifully capture the spirit of our celebrations. Watch her message and IAC's Executive Director, Joshua Davis Ruperto's 60th anniversary recap, below. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this incredible journey. Your enthusiasm and support have made this anniversary unforgettable.
The next 60 years begin with us. So let's keep going! Let us continue to uplift each other, to nurture creativity in every community, and to ensure that the arts remain a vital part of our shared experience. Together, we will cultivate a creative landscape that not only honors our past but also inspires generations to come.
Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a bright new year!
Warmest regards,
The Illinois Arts Council
