SBE Council Statement of Support for U.S. House Passage of U.S. Senate-Advanced Bill to Open the Federal Government

The following statement of support can be attributed to Karen Kerrigan, President & CEO, Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council):

"SBE Council strongly supports the minibus package passed by the U.S. Senate that provides full funding for key programs and extends the CR through January 30, 2026. We urge all U.S. House members to vote in support of the legislation. Returning the federal government to full operations is critical to small businesses across the country - indeed all Americans - as the cascading pain caused by the shutdown has taken a toll on confidence and pummeled important sectors of our economy. The country never should have been put through the shutdown pain fueled by political gamesmanship. If the reasonable House-passed CR was embraced by Senate Democrats more than 40 days ago, deliberations could have continued on spending bills and the enhanced Obamacare subsidies, as they now will, and the government could have remained open and functional."

"Small business owners, their employees, and the local communities they serve deserve a government that works for them - especially when they are in need of services funded by their hard-earned tax dollars. All U.S. House members must vote to reopen the federal government through this package, which will work to restore the confidence of small business owners and the American public. SBE Council urges all U.S. House members to vote in favor of the package."

"On the issue of the enhanced Obamacare subsidies, SBE Council welcomes continued scrutiny by Congress. These pricey Covid-era programs - and the failure of Obamacare in delivering affordable choices for small businesses - merit full review followed by common sense reforms."
