NOTICE OF RESIDENT DEATH AT CENTRAL DETENTION FACILITY

On Friday, May 8, 2026, at approximately 1:05 a.m., DC Department of Corrections (DOC) security personnel found resident Marcus Benson (37), of the District of Columbia, unresponsive in his cell at the Central Detention Facility. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated by DOC staff and medical personnel. DC Fire and EMS responded to continue life-saving efforts; however, Mr. Benson was pronounced deceased at approximately 2:01 a.m.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death. The incident is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and of the DOC Office of Investigative Affairs.
