Dementia Author Featured in UW’s Wyoming Dementia Together Program

An eldercare author will share insights on the next Wyoming Dementia Together (WDT) program's YouTube channel beginning Wednesday, Oct. 23.

WDT is a statewide, nonprofit caregiver network operating through the University of Wyoming's Wyoming Center on Aging (WyCOA). WDT meets by Zoom call every other Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Programs feature guest speakers and allow time for interaction from those who attend online.

Joy Loverde, best-selling author of "The Complete Eldercare Planner," will continue the discussion on part 2 of her appearance on "Once Again," WyCOA's YouTube video program. Part 1 of the two-part interview was posted in early October, when Loverde discussed such topics as creating a care team, communication strategies and the importance of self-care.

Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, ABC News, The New York Times and U.S. News and World Report. She has made guest appearances on The Today Show and the CBS Early Show.

Part 2 of Loverde's conversation, covering the topics of emergency preparedness, managing medications, money matters, legal matters and insurance, will be available for viewing on WDT's YouTube channel here and also may be found through the YouTube search feature by accessing WDT's "Once Again."

"Don't read this book. Use it. It's not meant to be read cover to cover, start to finish. Keep this book handy. You never know when caregiving decisions will have to be made on the spot," Loverde says about her publication. "There are no blueprints, but the book is designed to give you what you need to start."

There are hundreds of organizations and websites listed throughout the book and, at the end of every chapter, there are numerous helpful charts, checklists and worksheets, listed alphabetically for faster and easier search. The forms also are available to download for free on her website at https://elderindustry.com.

WDT includes dementia care professionals, licensed clinical social workers, a neuropsychologist, an occupational therapist and caregivers themselves. WDT began meeting in fall 2020 and since has been offering online programming help.
