Today,California Air Resources Board Chair Liane Randolph issuedthe following statement in response to President Trump signing illegal actions attackingCalifornia's Clean Air Act waiversfor Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks, and Heavy-Duty Engine and Vehicle Omnibus:
"Despite the President's signature, this remainsan unconstitutional, illegal, and foolishattemptto undermine California's clean air protections. Wewelcome GovernorNewsom's and California Attorney GeneralBonta's prompt legal action and look forward to judicial review. In the meantime, CARB will use every tool at its disposal to continue our critical work to clean the air and address the climate crisis. The health and well-beingof all Californiansdepends on it- especially those who live in underserved communities with unhealthy air.We look forward to engagingwiththe statelegislature, stakeholders, and the public as we follow the Governor's executive orderto further advance the state's clean vehicle transition.
"Beyond the environmental andpublichealth consequences of these illegalactions, there is an economic cost, too. This is one of an ever-growing listof vindictive actions to cementrelianceon harmful, antiquated technology thatwill only hurt thelong-term competitiveness of the U.S. auto industry in a global market that is rapidly advancing toward cleaner combustion technology andzero-emission vehicles.California is committedto continuingourwork to movetoward a clean transportation systemand a sustainable economy."
