ERIA President Meets ASEAN Secretary-General to Discuss Regional Priorities and 2026 Chairship Support

Jakarta, 20 January 2026: ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe paid a courtesy visit to Dr Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.

During the meeting, President Watanabe conveyed New Year's greetings and exchanged views with the Secretary-General on ASEAN's regional priorities and emerging challenges. He also outlined ERIA's flagship research agenda on economic resilience, alongside ongoing and planned initiatives to support the Philippines' ASEAN Chairship in 2026.

Secretary-General Kao reaffirmed ASEAN's commitment to further strengthening co-operation with ERIA, particularly in advancing the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. President Watanabe reiterated ERIA's readiness to continue providing timely research, policy advice, and technical support in support of ASEAN's regional objectives.
