Rep. Tangie Herring Appointed to House Subcommittee on the Effects of Screen Time on Literacy

ATLANTA - State Representative Tangie Herring (D-Macon) was recently appointed by Rep. Rob Clifton (R-Evans), chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth, to serve on the study committee's Subcommittee on the Effects of Screen Time on Literacy.

"I am honored to have been appointed by Rep. Clifton to serve on this important subcommittee," said Rep. Herring. "As a mother and lifelong educator, I understand the critical role literacy plays in shaping opportunities for Georgia's children. While technology can be a valuable educational tool, it is important that we carefully examine how increased screen time may affect reading and literacy among our young learners. I look forward to hearing from educators and parents during the interim to identify solutions that support students across the state. The Georgia House is committed to ensuring that every child has a strong foundation in literacy, and I am committed to advancing policies that help our students thrive."

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth will evaluate the effects of online platforms on minors to strengthen safety protections, address mental health concerns and promote age-appropriate access to online content.

Rep. Clifton also appointed the following subcommittee members: State Representatives Brad Thomas (R-Holly Springs), Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton), Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge) and Debra Bazemore (D-South Fulton).
