Ramirez Statement on the Republican Anti-Health Care, Slush Fund Resolution

Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez(IL-03) released the following statement on the passage of the Republicans' anti-health care Continuing Resolution, which includes a slush fund for eight Republicans investigated for their involvement in the January 6 insurrection.

"Since the start of the Trump Administration and Republicans' control of Congress, working families have seen skyrocketing costs, while billionaires are on their way to becoming trillionaires. Inflation and debt have reached record highs, workers have been laid off, and families have faced the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in history. And tonight, in an unsurprising turn of events, Republicans have betrayed working families, again, by passing a budget resolution that leaves 20 million Americans wondering if they will be able to afford their health care.

While Republicans' CR fails to protect health care, steals money from working families, and neglects to ensure oversight of the funding provided to the Trump Administration, it does carve out a slush fund of at least $500,000 for each Republican Senator who was investigated for their involvement in January 6. Republicans keep enriching themselves with your taxpayer dollars, while raising the cost of health care for working families. It's disgusting.

It goes without saying that I voted HELL NO! I do not believe in pinky promises from Republicans. Working families deserve better. We demand better. We must use every tool at our disposal to reauthorize critical health care tax credits - including discharge petitions. That is why, today, I signed a discharge petition demanding a vote on a 3-year ACA extension. And I will continue to find ways to deliver EVERY SINGLE DAMN THING working families need to thrive."
