Possible Change in Water Color Starting September 8

The City of Fort Lauderdale is preparing to bring the new Prospect Lake Clean Water Center online in fall 2026. As part of this work, you may notice a temporary change in your water's color starting Monday, September 8, 2025.

Beginning that day, City crews will flush raw water piping at the Prospect Wellfield to clean the system and remove sand, grit, and other debris. This step is essential to ensure high-quality water from the new facility once it is fully operational.

During this process and through next year, the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant will not have access to certain wells. Some wells with naturally higher organic content will need to be used, which may cause your water to appear slightly different than usual.

Please know:

  • Your water remains safe to drink and meets all primary drinking water standards.
  • The color change is temporary and will improve once the new plant is operational in fall 2026.
  • This work is a critical step in upgrading our infrastructure to deliver the highest-quality water to every home and business in Fort Lauderdale and surrounding municipalities.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this important project.
