Homicide investigation underway; Suspect shot and killed in Portland

Shortly after 7:00 am on Thursday, September 24, Gresham Police officers were dispatched to a welfare check at a residence in the 17900 block of SE Market Street. They discovered the occupant of the residence deceased under suspicious circumstances. Detectives determined the victim died by homicidal violence and identified a suspect.

Later that morning, investigators located the suspect in the area of SE Pine Street and SE 99th Avenue in Portland. They requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force in taking the suspect into custody. The suspect fled during the arrest attempt and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

During the shooting, PPB K9 Kylo was fatally wounded. K9 Kylo was a true protector of the peace. We ask our community to keep the officers and professional staff of the Portland Police Bureau in your thoughts as they honor K9 Kylo's legacy and sacrifice.

The homicide victim is not being identified pending notification of the next of kin. The deceased suspect is also not being identified at this time.
