Treasurer Stacy Garrity Celebrates 529 Day with More Than $33,000 in Awards for Pennsylvania Families

Harrisburg, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity today encouraged families to celebrate 529 Day by taking advantage of the Pennsylvania Treasury Department's 529 Day promotion, which is offering more than $33,000 in awards. Families who save with the PA 529 College and Career Savings Program may be eligible to win one of six regional awards - a $5,529 deposit into their PA 529 account. The 529 Day promotion ends May 31, 2026.

"Every child's future is full of possibilities, and I'm thrilled Treasury is able to offer over $33,000 in awards to help encourage families to start saving early. Even small contributions made today can grow over time and help families prepare to fund their child's education - no matter what path they choose after high school."

To be eligible for the promotion, families must contribute at least $10 to a new or existing PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan (GSP) or PA 529 Investment Plan (IP) account by May 31, 2026, and the account owner must be a Pennsylvania resident. Official rules and additional information are available at pa529.com/529day.

Gift contributions of at least $10 made during the promotional period also qualify. Family and friends can contribute to a child's PA 529 account by visiting pa529.com/gift. Here you can find information about purchasing and redeeming PA 529 gift cards as well as making online contributions using Ugift.

The PA 529 program has been helping families save and pay for education for more than 30 years. There are two plans to choose from, the PA 529 GSP and the Morningstar Gold-Rated PA 529 IP.

The PA 529 GSP lets families save at today's tuition rates to cover tomorrow's tuition costs and PA 529 GSP fees are waived through June 30, 2026. The PA 529 IP has multiple investment options to choose from and returns tied to financial markets. Treasurer Garrity has cut PA 529 fees numerous times, resulting in over $22 million in savings for Pennsylvania families.

Both plans offer state and federal tax advantages, and PA 529 assets don't impact a student's eligibility for Pennsylvania state financial aid. PA 529 accounts can be used for a wide variety of qualifying technical, collegiate, and apprenticeship expenses like tuition, fees, books, equipment, room and board, and more.

Every child born in Pennsylvania on or after January 1, 2019 - as well as children adopted by Pennsylvania families - have a $100 jumpstart to their education savings through Treasury's Keystone Scholars program. Families can claim their child's scholarship and learn more at pa529.com/keystone.
