Senior Success Story: José Ignacio and José Emilio Araujo Rodríguez (En español)

Northeast Early College High School seniors José Ignacio and José Emilio Araujo Rodríguez are twin brothers from Venezuela who turned a major life transition into a story of perseverance, connection and success.

Why it matters: José Ignacio and José Emilio came to Austin in 2023 and started at International High School before transferring to Northeast Early College High School. Adjusting to a new country, a new school system, college-level classes and a new language wasn't easy, but they found support from their teachers, family and friends.

At Northeast, the twins stayed active in their campus community through tennis, music, guitar class, National Honor Society, Student Council, Golf Club and Track & Field.

What they are saying: "Definitely say yes to everything," they said. "Try everything and find yourself in high school."

What's next: The twins are preparing for different paths after graduation. One plans to major in computer science at the University of Texas at San Antonio, while the other will start at Austin Community College with the goal of earning a nursing degree at the University of Texas at Austin.

Even as they head in different directions, José Ignacio and José Emilio say the bond between twins and family is something that will not go away.

Los estudiantes de último grado de la Escuela Preparatoria de Universidad Temprana Northeast, José Ignacio y José Emilio Araujo Rodríguez son hermanos gemelos que vinieron de Venezuela y convirtieron una gran transición vital en una historia de perseverancia, conexión y éxito.

Por qué es importante: José Ignacio y José Emilio llegaron a Austin en 2023 y empezaron en la Escuela Preparatoria International antes de transferirse a la Escuela Preparatoria de Universidad Temprana Northeast. Ajustarse a un país nuevo, a un sistema nuevo, a clases de nivel universitario y a un idioma nuevo no fue fácil, pero encontraron el apoyo de sus maestros,
familia y amigos.

En Northeast, los gemelos se mantuvieron activos en su comunidad escolar a través del tenis, la música, clases de guitarra, la Sociedad Nacional de Honor, el Consejo estudiantil, el Club de Golf y el Atletismo.
